Wireless Sensor Networks Lab

Sensors are becoming the essential part of our lives. From smart homes to sophisticated robotized industry, sensors are the integral part of it. The 4th Industrial Revolution focuses on the use of sensors networks to achieve, agility, reliability and automation. Wireless sensor networks are self-configured and infrastructure less networks. These are deployed in the targeted area to monitor habitat data. Applications of WSNs exists in a number of sectors such as healthcare, retail, transportation, manufacturing, science and technology, agriculture, energy, construction, energy, military and education. Sensing the emerging trends of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology, NIE has established WSN laboratory. The main focus of the WSN lab is to develop the applications of this technology for common man and business. The Lab has cutting edge wireless sensor network R&D kits for conducting research in different applications domain.

Objectives
  • To establish state of the art experimentation setup which supports WSN applications development and a research platform for academia, public and private sector
  • WSN Technology development
  • Provide support to public & private sector in terms of consultation, training and applications development

Ongoing Projects

Smart Car Parking Management System (SPMS).

Today’s increasing trend in vehicles and buildings make it difficult to get parking space in down town, mega shopping malls and airports. To facilitate the shopping mall owners and vehicle drivers, SPMS is the need of the day. In view of this vision, we have developed a SPMS for multi-story large parking lots of mega shopping malls and airports, etc. Following are the main features of SPMS.

For Drivers/Users
  • Smart navigation for the car driver to find the nearest available space in less time.
  • Easy to reserve parking in advance from home/office.
  • Easy to locate the parked vehicle if lost in mind during shopping.
  • Vehicle monitoring remotely during shopping.
  • Less botheration for drivers to locate empty parking space during rush hours.
For Business Centers
  • Continuous awareness about state of parking lot
  • Easy to locate/contact the driver/users for management
  • Easy to implement customized tariffs for nearest and far parking lots
  • Easy to reserve parking lots for special guests etc.
  • Can be easily integrated with existing parking toll systems
