Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology
NIE is currently working on promoting zero emissions vehicle by acquiring the Electric Vehicle Technology which include PMSM motors, LI-ION and LIFEPO4 batteries, Battery management systems, DC fast chargers and EV controllers. In this aspect a prototype vehicle has been developed by converting existing Mehran to EV.

Electric vehicle Desk (EV Desk) at NIE
National Institute of Electronics has established an Electric vehicle Desk (EV Desk) in light of the MOU signed between NIE and CDA. This Desk will Handle all the queries and matters related to Electic vehicles/Busses.

Automotive Electronic Lab
Automotive Electronics Lab was established in June, 2017 through a PC-1, under the umbrella project of Balancing, Modernization and Reconciliation of NIE, its aim is to enhance local knowledge base about EFI vehicles and the latest technology trends in the field of Automotive Electronics.
The Lab has following three sections:
- Research and Development.
- CAT Facility.
- Training.
Automotive Electronic Lab
Products
The Automotive Electronic Lab has developed following Products:
- Complete dsPIC based ECU design and development in collaboration with NUST MS Scholar, for 660cc engine.
- Development of Ignition Coil Tester, for COP system.
- Development of IAC (idle air control) valve tester.
- Integration of OBD 2 tracking and diagnostic system with locally made mobile application.
- Development of local vehicle tracking mobile application in collaboration with EME-NUST scholars.
- Development of OBD2 diagnostics tool (showing engine parameters like ECT, IAT, RPM etc), in collaboration with International Islamic University scholars.



Services
The Automotive Electronic Lab offers following services to the Industry and R & D organizations:
Indoor:
- Design and development of piggyback ECU to be removed.
- Integration of Automotive Data Logger: a system that takes OBD2 data and GPS data to track the vehicle as well as displaying Engine health.
- Training program for skilled workers in the field of Automotive Diagnostics and Troubleshooting.
Outdoor
- First (to be removed) Fully Computerized Automotive (to be added) Diagnostic Faulitics to be changes to Facilities
- Electronic Faclities of EFI Cars – to be changed to - Complete Electronic Fault Checking Facility for EFI Vehicles
- Hybrid Vehicle Diagnostic – to be changed to – Hybrid Vehicle Diagnostics, Error Code correction and Troubleshooting.

Automotive Electronics Lab offers One day detailed workshop covering the following topics:
- Sensors and actuators in an EFI vehicle
- CAN bus system overview
- EFI vs Carburetor based vehicle
- Troubleshooting of sensor and actuators
- Error diagnostics of EFI vehicle
- Error code correction of EFI vehicle
- Hands on training on Launch PRO x431, and its features
Minimum Educational Requirements
Matric (must be a professional mechanic), DAE/ BE/ BS (Electrical/Electronics/Mechanical/Mechatronics)
